Short Description
Bring precise, digital navigation control to your electronics projects with the KY-040 Rotary Encoder Module. Unlike standard analog potentiometers that have a fixed physical stopping point, this incremental digital encoder can rotate 360 degrees continuously in either direction. It operates by generating quadrature digital pulses that track exactly how much the knob has turned and in which direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise). It also features an integrated momentary push-button switch under the shaft, making it the perfect choice for navigating graphical display menus, adjusting volume levels, controlling stepper motors, and fine-tuning smart home dashboards.

  • 360-Degree Continuous Rotation: Rotates infinitely in both directions without any physical limits, preventing mechanical strain or damage from over-turning. 
  • Tactile Detent Feedback: Engineered with satisfying internal indexing clicks (detents) that provide crisp tactile feedback to the user on every step.
  • Integrated Push-Button Switch: Features a hidden digital tactile switch under the metal shaft that registers an active-low signal when the knob is pressed straight down.
  • Onboard Pull-Up Resistors: Outfitted with 10kΩ internal pull-up resistors for the CLK (Clock) and DT (Data) pins, saving you breadboard space and reducing extra wiring steps. 
  • Universal System Voltage: Natively supports power inputs from 3.3V to 5.0V DC, allowing it to interface directly with an Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, or STM32
